My friend and I came to Zan Izakaya restaurant at 8:15 pm and we were lucky to get a table. People before us have to wait one hr to get their tables. The menu is big, many items. We tried the spicy beef tofu soup, and it was delicious. The crispy rice cake was also good, but my favorite was the eel rice pot. So delicious, I highly recommend it. Service was also fast, the waitress was very nice as well. I give this restaurant 4 stars. I will come back!

Weekday Lunch special is top tier. Try to come right as the restaurant opens. Food: Salmon meshi lunch meal with half udon 5/5 The rice is slightly crispy from the hot bowl. There's a light sesame flavor to the rice, probably from a light drizzle of sesame oil and the salmon is still slightly raw in the center ( that's a good thing). There are a ton of toppings ( pickles, seaweed, roe ( salmon and flying fish), green onions) and it all tastes incredible together. Unagi meshi 5/5 There's a great flavor profile to this dish as well. Same toppings as the salmon meshi bowl! For both bowls, they're a perfect medley of flavors and texture. They do come out piping hot though so you really have to try not to scarf everything down.. as tempting as it is because the bowls are THAT good. Udon ( half) 4/5 Solid chewy noodles with a tasty simple dashi? broth. The udon looks to be mostly vegetarian except for the broth ( like i said in the last sentence, could be a dashi broth). The udon has lettuce, green onion and bok choy in it and overall, the dish is great for warming up on a cold autumn or winter day. The portion sizes for the udon , even the half size, are pretty good and well worth your money for the lunch special. Yaki salmon Onigiri 5/5 One of my favorites. Crispy fried rice that's lightly salted and stuffed with salmon. The flying fish roe and green onions add another layer of umami to the dish. While it's a little hard to eat the yaki onigiri without it falling apart, the flavors are worth it and there's nothing preventing you from eating the fallen apart onigiri as a " deconstructed" onigiri. Service: Super fast because it was on a weekday at lunch time right at opening! Ambiance: Izakaya vibes without any of the smoky ambiance. It's a great place to bring friends and family. Seating can be limited since this is a popular restaurant but if you come for a weekday lunch BEFORE the lunch rush, you can get a seat no problem.

I had a great meal here today with my friend who recommended it! It's a small, cozy restaurant in a rather unassuming strip mall. We came at around 12 on a Saturday and only had a 10 minute wait. Service was fast and friendly. * Unagi meshi (medium size): 5/5 My friend recommended that I try this, and it was amazing!! Very generous portion of unagi that was perfectly seasoned, with minimal bones (unagi at other restaurants has too many bones). The flying fish roe and pickle garnish added salinity and crunchiness, and the rice was slightly crispy. The stone pot kept the food warm throughout our entire meal. * Premium seafood ramen: 5/5 It was our first time trying this dish and it was great! The seafood broth was very flavorful and not too salty, and it was lighter than pork-based ramen broth. The crab, clams, and scallops were good as well. This would be a good choice if tonkotsu ramen is too heavy/rich for you. * White tuna tataki: 5/5 Tataki is like carpaccio but seared on the outside. The seared part added lots of flavor and variance in texture, and the tuna marinade was really good! It was thickly sliced and generously portioned compared to other restaurants. I'll definitely be back again to try their many other dishes!!

Very nice donburi place! Ordered the white tuna bowl and the salmon and steak platter. The sparkling yuzu paired so well with all the flavors. Very nice presentation and the servers were super attentive. Will definitely come back to try other dishes!

I've been going to Dan for over 5 years. They are always super busy no matter the day, so I always try to come right at opening. It's a great izakaya with lots of options. I normally go with my parents and we always order the same thing. We get the sashimi salad, which is super fresh and they don't skimp on the fish, the parmesan karage, super krispy and moist, and the salmon meshi, which is a hot stone bowl with rice and salmon. We always end up taking home leftovers. Service is always quick and friendly. Though the restaurant is on the smaller side, there's still a good amount of seating, but it does fill up very quickly. I came in right at opening last time and there were already a few parties seated. Will always come back :)

The vibe of this place is exactly what I'm looking for in an Izakaya! It's got a small and cozy feel to it that I really love, but it does mean you should expect to wait to be seated during popular dining hours. I love all of the options, it was difficult to choose exactly what to order. We ended up getting the Deluxe Meshi and a few appetizers. The Takoyaki was amazing and came out super fresh and piping hot. The Onigiri and chicken karaage was a tad bit greasy for my taste but I ended up using the leftovers to make a phenomenal fried rice the following day. There are so many amazing looking options that I will definitely be returning to try them out. I can't wait to taste the okonomiyaki in particular!

Love this cozy nook, one of the spots in the Bay I would revisit from time to time. There is usually a long wait, so definitely be sure to sign up early! Staff are also super sweet and personable. Really well priced with generous portion sizing. We ordered the salmon carpaccio, beef tongue, and deluxe meshi. Salmon carpaccio has super thick cuts of salmon with generous portion sizing. Absolutely delicious and would order again. Beef tongue was just ok, but very decent portions. I really enjoyed the pickles in the deluxe meshi, but wish there was less rice and more other toppings. We also ordered a sweet potato beer that was not bad, and a chocolate "award winning" beer that was just really bitter.

I've eaten at Dan Izakaya a few times and I always enjoy the food here. Today I came here for lunch and ordered salmon collar ($13.50), clam ramen ($20.50), yaki onigiri ($8.50), takowasa ($8.50), and the yakiniku don ($22.00). I didn't eat the salmon collar because I'm allergic, but the fish was generously portioned today. My clam ramen was comforting, light, and flavorful. My dad also enjoyed his yakiniku don which came with a poached egg, mayo, and kimchi. The yaki onigiri here is my favorite, it's perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside. I love the mentaiko filling and pickled cucumbers on the side. The takowasa was fresh, pleasantly chewy, and not too overpowering. I usually order the karaage, their karaage party set is great for groups. My previous dining companions also like the meshi dishes. Overall, I think Dan Izakaya is a great place to have lunch or dinner. There's plenty of options for people who have seafood allergies/ aversions to seafood but want to enjoy Japanese food. I definitely need to pop by to enjoy their food with alcohol sometime!

One of my favorite restaurants in South Bay!!! :) Has a wait most evenings so come near closing or early if you want to get seated quickly. Small and cute interior, super friendly (!!!) staff, and huge delicious portions! FOOD: Salmon Avocado Carpaccio (8/10) - Huge chunks of salmon, generous toppings of avocado, green and white onions, and fish roe. Love this!! Gyu Tongue (7/10) - Not the most mind-blowing beef tongue, but love that they give huge portions. Great dish to get to fill yourself up Deluxe Meshi (9/10) - Medium size is already huge!!! Super tender torched salmon, sweet and creamy uni, poached egg, fish roe, and amazing Japanese pickles. Definitely get one of the meshis if you come!!
